Not another marathon training blog. Promise.
Welcome! I ran my first marathon four months after my mother died from cancer. I have learned the most painful and beautiful truths since losing her. Thank you for letting me share them.

Tomorrow is another day

I hope you all enjoy this excerpt from my mother's short-lived journal.

February 19, 2005

I don't know why, but yesterday when I was browsing through the racks at Barnes & Noble, I ran across rows and rows of journal books and got the urge to start putting my thoughts on paper. This may become a journal and a memoir, because lately I have been thinking a lot about my life since childhood. Anyway, today is a beautiful day, sunny, but cold. I like sunny days! They make me optimistic although with the medical profession verdict, I should not have been living. Six months they gave me last May. This May it will be a year. I hope I'll be here next May to write in my journal. I find I have been feeling joy in little things such as buying a pot of hyacinths and watching them grow and flower.

Martina & Joseph helped me choose a lamp for the living room at Neena's. Later we joked that Neena personally sold us the lamp. She was a very pleasant older woman who appeared to be the owner of the shop so we joked that Neena personally sold us the $500 lamp! Joe was funny instructing me to negotiate the price down. However, that was not a car sales place. Later Martina got the fireplace going. Joseph read his six omega book until he fell asleep on the couch. I was studying my Better Homes Kitchen magazine until I also fell asleep. Martina read her book. It was a very pleasant afternoon which I loved spending with Martina & Joseph. Our quality time! Onward. Tomorrow is another day. Hope it is as pleasant as today.
